In-Person and Online Therapy for Better Outcomes
Although our practice primarily focuses on in-person therapy, we recognize that in today’s evolving world, online therapy may be more effective for you. Whether you're in a rural area, wish to avoid Austin traffic, or simply prefer the comfort and convenience of your own home, we are here to meet your needs. With the right therapist and approach, we have found that online therapy is as impactful and effective as in-person sessions.

How Therapy at ATX-Counseling Works
1. Being A Human Is Hard
Being a human is hard. Even if you manage to avoid the rejections, awkwardness, and vulnerability of life, you still face profound questions. How do we find meaning? How do we build more fulfilling relationships? How do we cope with disappointments, failures, and regret? How do we meet our emotional needs? How do we age gracefully and navigate life's limitations?
Understanding the narratives we construct about ourselves helps us heal from the past and creates a new experience of life in the present. Therapy guides us toward living authentically so that we may have as few regrets as possible.

2. Our Brains are Complicated
Our brain’s job is to focus on survival, not happiness. We have developed neurological systems that while might be very adaptive often create problems in the long-term if we don’t learn to manage them. Primitive responses or “fast systems” can cause feelings we don't understand. Feelings like social anxiety, self-doubt, the negativity bias can be so overwhelming they prevent us from better utilizing “slow systems”.
Therapy helps us reconnect with ourselves. It provides a space for creativity, presence, emotional honesty, and openness. Through a safe, supportive environment we can rediscover the childlike parts of us that want to explore, have fun, and create new narratives about who we are.

3. A Place to Practice Change
Old thoughts and feelings can create patterns that are hard to break. Therapy provides a safe space to practice new ways of being. Whether you are struggling in relationships with yourself, others, your work, your family, or breaking unhealthy cycles, it is helpful to practice new ways of relating to old problems. Many struggles have roots that run deep, but through the process of discovery and practice, change is possible.
4. A Space for Healing
Life is not easy and requires courage. Everyone deserves a space where they feel heard, seen, and appreciated for who they are and who they are becoming. By gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves, we can learn to create the life we deserve. Therapy is that space, offering the opportunity for profound personal growth and healing.
At ATX Counseling, we maintain a dedicated practice to tailor therapy to your individual needs. Our team consists of passionate therapists, a Client Care Coordinator, and student psychology interns.
