Q&A With Emily
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love watching people grow and change every day. Witnessing people try new things, find healthier ways of living, overcome challenges, and enjoy their life is truly a passion and a privilege. It is courageous to come to therapy, to be willing to explore parts of yourself that might not have been allowed in early life and integrate these parts to create more fulfillment. That process also benefits everyone around you, to stop unhealthy cycles and allow others to come to know you in a deeper and more profound ways. Life is an experience and helping others create a better relationship with themselves and others benefits everyone.
In your opinion, how does therapy benefit people?
I believe all parts of you deserve space to be heard and understood even when we are constantly being told who we "should" be. Embracing who you truly are and practicing self-compassion is where healing unfolds. I encourage clients to be present rather than perfect and allow themselves to consider their emotional needs and how we can meet them. I also believe that everyone deserves to have fun and enjoy their life. You are right where you need to be.
On a personal note...
I grew up in Memphis, TN and moved to Austin after graduate school in Nashville. I like finding great ice-cream spots in Austin (and there are a lot here!) I also love to read. I like to follow characters navigate their story and evolve.
