What is the first session like?
My goal for our first session is to get to know you. During this session, we will discuss your goals for therapy and determine if I am going to be the best fit for you. For some, the first session can be very anxiety-provoking. I encourage clients to come early to relax in our reception room.
How long does counseling take?
The length of time in counseling varies from client to client. Some clients only need 3 or 4 sessions to learn and implement new skills, while others may choose to continue for longer. If you are committed to the process by coming to appointments, reading assigned materials, and completing homework assignments outside of our sessions, you will see success more quickly. I ask you to be honest with me about how you feel our sessions are going, and whether they are helpful. My goal is to make the most of our time together.
As a parent, will I be involved in my child's counseling?
The teenage clients with whom I am most successful have caregivers who are regularly involved in the counseling process. In order to build a trusting, safe relationship, I will not share specifics of what your child talks about; however, checking in with me to discuss progress can help create more positive changes at home. This may include meeting with me for 5 or 10 minutes individually or being involved in family sessions all together.
Counseling sessions:
Our sessions typically last 45 to 50 minutes. Some sessions, including family sessions, may require more time and we can schedule additional time as needed.
Fees:
I am considered an out-of-network provider for most insurance companies. If you would like to be reimbursed by your insurance company, I am able to provide you with the appropriate paperwork to do so. Sliding scale options are available. Pricing for these sessions depends on the time of day, services provided, and your financial situation. Please contact me to discuss these options further.
